a Disciples diary

Sunday 5 November

On Sunday we had a very full, but very special day. We started with having a gathering in the upper room (the living room of Emile and Wilmarie’s house which is on the top floor of their building). This was such a special time of sharing about what God has done in our lives, things we are thankful for, reading scriptures and praying together. The power of believers coming together and worshipping God together is really seen and felt when it is not something you have anymore (eg a weekly church service). The room was filled with love, expectation, laughter and to use the cliche – family.

The afternoon we visited Sheranne’s parents in Opmeer which is about 1n hour’s drive from Amsterdam. We were greeted with the warmest of hospitality and one of the biggest pots of Chilli con carne I have ever seen! And then one incredible apple pie. This was a really fun time as we got to experience the Dutch countryside a bit better and most of the conversations were a mixture between Dutch and Afrikaans and very little English.

The evening we joined a young adult group at Sheranne’s home church. There were about 20 young people coming together. We shared a bit on the history of Every Nation and what our global mission is. Afterwards we shared on the call to make disciples and how can can truly use ordinary young people to radically transform society and impact the nations. At the end of the evening 5 people responded to the Gospel and received Jesus as Lord and Savior, we also had a prophetic activation and prayed for people to be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and receive the gift of speaking in tongues.

This night really was one of the highlights of our trip as it gave us a glimpse into what is possible when young people in the Netherlands encounter Jesus and when people are willing to walk with them and invest in their lives as the leaders of the young adult group are!
