This portion of Scripture in the Gospel of John is such a profound teaching by Jesus. It’s a theme God has been stirring in my heart for quite a while and will most probably be a theme that will continue to stir for years to come.
In this passage Jesus gives us the keys to living a full life that fully pleases God.
v5) Whoever abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
v8) By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples.
v9) As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Abide in My love.
v11) These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.
Jesus calls us to a place of abiding (resting, believing, acting accordingly) in Him, in His love. In this place where the love of Jesus invades us our response is obedience. Jesus then promises that we will bear much fruit, which glorifies God and shows ourselves to be disciples of Jesus and in this place where our lives glorify God our joy will be full.
Abide. Love. Trust. Obey. Fruitful. Glorify God. Disciples. Full of joy
May this be true in our lives this year!
